DISCOVERY CHANNEL

EGYPT LIVE

Discovery Channel-viewers from 95 countries around the world witnessed history in the making in Expedition Unknown: Egypt Live as adventurer and explorer Josh Gates uncovered the 2,500-year-old mummy of a high priest for the first time ever on live television. Ping Pong Productions invited Pixeldust to design the show package for this epic event that uncovered one of the Old Kingdom’s mysteries buried deep in the sands of Egypt.

LOGO DEVELOPMENT

Discovery asked Pixeldust to build the logo design upon the existing Expedition Unknown brand. The designers came up with a series of typefaces that would evoke a sense of adventure, exploration, and mystery while also hinting at the richness of Egypt’s ancient culture. Pixeldust studied hieroglyphs and artifacts of the Old Kingdom and its god Thoth and worked those elements into the designs.

STYLEFRAMES

The network requested a graphics package with lower thirds and locator maps. Pixeldust also produced a variety of transitions and bumpers with scenes from the main show open.

SHOW OPEN

The initial client brief was looking for a combination of mystery meets high tech. In one of the first concepts, Pixeldust combined dramatically backlit hieroglyphs with fragments of digital user interfaces. Pixeldust also developed a concept inspired by shapes and forms of ancient Egyptian artifacts and designed them in a more abstract way.
