UNIVERSAL STUDIOS ORLANDO

After the success of Universal Horror Nights 2020, Pixeldust was engaged for another frightfully exciting VFX job for Universal Horror Nights 2022. This project presented several challenges including a completely digital face replacement for live actors and complex environment enhancements. Creative Direction: Ricardo Andrade in collaboration with Paintbox Labs CG/VFX Supervisor: Samar Shool Senior Animator: Andy Hencken Senior Producer: Emily Vitek

BRINGING DEATH TO LIFE

For a sequence featuring a horrifying grim reaper, Pixeldust was tasked with adding eyes that would bring life to this herald of death. With careful video tracking and attention to detail, the VFX team added a pair of menacing glowing eyes, complete with reflections around the eye, as well as an ominous fogginess around their centers.
In this scene where an actor is portraying the terror of having his soul sucked out of his body, Pixeldust was asked to enhance his performance with a zombie-like skin decay effect. The team seamlessly merged his face with a 3D model of a zombie head over time to greatly augment the fear factor of this shot.
Pixeldust helped to create a terrifying environment for this selfie queen’s encounter with an entourage of tormentors. The VFX team added several realistic effects including cracking mirrors, blood dripping down the walls, and a ghastly overflowing sink full of bubbling blood!!
