A plan to save the planet only works if people can understand it. For the Global Commons Alliance, Pixeldust turned the Plan for the Planet into an animated explainer and a website anyone can follow.
The Global Commons Alliance brings together scientists, companies and government representatives with a bold goal: a 21st-century platform that connects the environment, the economy and people, transforming economic systems for the benefit of society while sustaining the natural systems of Earth.
The Alliance asked Pixeldust to explain its four-step plan in a short, impactful video that anyone could understand, and to build a website so the organization and its ambitious plan could be found online. Pixeldust paired stunning footage of society and nature from around the world with an animation that puts Earth at the center and unfolds the plan layer by layer, like a set of nesting dolls.
Animated infographics for a global plan
The animation revolves around our home, Earth. Layers animate out around the planet, each one showing a stage of the Plan for the Planet. The result plays like a nesting doll, each step popping out of the last, so a complex strategy reads clearly and concisely.
To represent the concept, the team first had to understand what the global commons are: climate, freshwater, biodiversity, oceans and land. These systems are interconnected, and together they allow life on Earth to exist. Today humans are putting a severe strain on all of them, and the Global Commons Alliance aims to reverse that trend with the Plan for the Planet.
To help visualize the plan, Pixeldust created a set of animated infographics that morph seamlessly from planet Earth into the Global Commons Alliance logo, explaining the goals of the Alliance step by step along the way.
To complete the visual package, Pixeldust designed a clean, elegant website for the Global Commons Alliance. It clearly shows the Alliance’s goals, what is being done to reach them, and who is partnering to help stabilize the world’s climate and ecosystems. The site’s visual journey makes the targets, and the path to them, easy to follow.
